Mental illness monsters

My therapist said I should throw out the anxiety on the floor. What does it look like? Most often it looks like the brown-purple monster shown below.

You will also find the heavy exhaustion-monster, the black hole of sorrow, the strangling monster of worries, the on fire monster of panic and the ghostly veil monster of depressions.

Picturing your feelings like something outside your body can help you to remember these are just feelings. It’s easier to work through the feeling if you can take a step back and see it for what it is. “I’m just a little bit sad/panicky, this too shall pass…”

I don’t know how many of my anxiety monsters there are on the floor in the waiting room at the doctor’s place…
